It is a difficult and old question. A lot of people have been disputing about it. The answer also depends on what to take into consideration.
If we speak about the territory, Russia is an Asiatic country without doubt. Almost 75% of Russian territory is situated in Asia and only 22% in Europe. But as to the population, 78% of Russian people live in the European part and only 22% in the Asiatic part.
In Soviet times people often migrated. And a lot of people from the Asiatic part came to live to the European part of Russia and to Ukraine. These people brought their traditions and culture with them. And some of these traditions and culture assimilated among people who lived there.

- Some character traits: cunning, collectivity, aspiration for profit, they are less rational;
- The state is more important than a personality;
- There are a lot words from oriental languages in Russian and Ukrainian languages;
- Connections are very important. For example if you want to find a good job, you should have connections.
The European traits of Russian Ukrainian people are:
- Christian religion;
- Culture;
-Civilization;
So if you want to understand Russian Ukrainian people you should be a European and Asiatic person at the same time.
